Welcome to the 2022 Launch Pad Competition

The wait is finally over, the Launch Pad 2022 Competition is HERE! May 24 8:00AM - 2:00PM located at SUNY Broome all are invited. Come and see all of the amazing work our students have been working on throughout the year, and get excited about the future!

  • Masks? If you are fully vaccinated you are not required to wear a mask at the Launch Pad final event unless your school or business stipulated otherwise. If you are not fully vaccinated you must wear a mask at all times during the event, no exception.

  • Parking? Non-bus parking will be in Lot #5 in front of the SUNY Broome Ice Center. There will also be signs posted the day of, and arrows directing you to the Student Center. Any bus parking will be in Lot #1.

  • Can I Participate Virtually? This is a somewhat hybrid event, so if you are unable to come to the event for whatever reason there is a virtual option, although we strongly encourage all to attend physically to get the full experience. If you plan to participate virtually please email as soon as possible. 

  • Presentations? From 9:00AM - 11:00AM students will be giving presentations of their business ideas in their respective rooms. These presentations are open to anyone who may want to watch, but no one will be allowed to enter the room once the presentation has started. When students are not presenting student are encouraged to explore the tradeshow, go on tours of the campus and listen to a variety of guest speakers. 

  • How does Judging Work? All teams have been divided up by category and further divided up by group. Each Group has a set of 2-3 judges who will utilize the Launch Pad rubric to evaluate the teams during the presentation. After the presentation Judges decide a room winner and all room winners will be eligible to win either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place. Judges then deliberate as a whole to determine overall winners

  • What is the Lightning Round? The Lightning Round is when room winners are announced and the respective elevator pitches are which have been pre-recorded are projected on the mainstage.

  • People's Choice Judges? Didn't win your room? You can still win a People's Choice Award! This year the Awards are those listed below. During the Tradeshow Expo everyone (Judges, Students, Community Members, etc) is expected to vote for who they feel deserves these awards. Voting for yourself is prohibited. All Votes remain anonymous. 

    • Be Bold ($100) - This year we encouraged students to take risks, dream big, and Be BOLD! what business idea is taking the biggest risks? Who dreamed the biggest? Which idea is the BOLDEST?​

    • Best Idea ($100) - What business idea out of all the participating teams do you think is “the best”? Maybe it’s the most viable or most profitable, maybe it has the most potential to promote positive change, or maybe you just like the idea more than all of the others.

    • Best Logo ($100) - Out of all the company logos for all of the participating teams (found on the tradeshow pages of the website) which did you find to be the most visually stunning and representative of the idea?

  • How Much are the Scholarships? First Place this year is $1,500, Second Place is $750, and Third Place is $500. This is in addition to the $100 prize that each team receives if they win their Room. This year will be the most we have ever give away in scholarship prizes. The scholarship amount will be split evenly between team members and will be paid out as a scholarship upon the respective student's senior year.

2022 Keynote Speaker

Jacob Kumpon: KLAW Industries

Our 2022 keynote speaker for the competition this year is KLAW Industries co-founder, Jacob Kumpon.

Jacob Kumpon is the co-founder and COO of KLAW Industries, which uses landfilled glass to make concrete stronger, cheaper, and sustainable. As a college student at Broome and Binghamton University, Jacob has raised $637,000 in grants and purchased a production facility on the Binghamton East Side to scale their process. Founded in 2019, KLAW Industries is the cutting edge of the modern recycling industry
